Bernie Jauncey | UniSC | University of the Sunshine Coast, Queensland, Australia

Bernadette Jauncey (Bernie) is a Lecturer in Paramedicine at the University of the Sunshine Coast, Sippy Downs, having recently been appointed to the role on a permanent basis. She brings extensive clinical, operational, and educational experience to the program, with a career spanning military, remote, and civilian paramedicine.

Bernie began her career as a Rotary Wing Retrieval Medic with the Australian Defence Force in 1999, serving on Blackhawk and Bell UH-1 Iroquois (Huey) helicopters, with deployments under the United Nations and World Health Organisation to East Timor and the Solomon Islands. Following this, she worked in remote and austere environments as a Clinical Advisor and Rescue Team Leader in the mining sector, with additional deployments supporting Border Force operations in the Northern Territory. After transitioning from Defence, Bernie worked as a civilian paramedic in Sydney before joining Queensland Ambulance Service in 2008, where she held a variety of senior operational, coordination, state disaster management, and clinical education roles across Metro North Region such as Clinical Support Officer and Senior Clinical Educator spanning.

A sessional academic for over ten years prior to her appointment, Bernie has a strong commitment to student learning, clinical education, and professional development. She is currently undertaking an Honours degree, with her research driven by a strong interest in veteran health, wellbeing, and the transition from military to civilian clinical and emergency service roles, with the aim of publishing her findings.
