Dr Mingzhong Wang

Dr Wang is a Senior Lecturer in Computer Science at UniSC. His research focuses on machine learning, with particular expertise in deep representation learning, knowledge graphs, and reinforcement learning. His work spans learning robust state representations from visual observations, differentiable planning in spatially variant environments, network embedding with generative adversarial approaches, time-series forecasting, POI recommendations, and medication recommendations. He is also actively involved in applied research on mobile computing, IoT/IoV systems, and telepresence robotics, including IoT-enabled stroke rehabilitation using smart wearable devices and machine learning, which has practical applications in health, aged care, and assistive technologies.

Dr Wang previously worked as a Lecturer at the Beijing Institute of Technology before joining UniSC in 2015. He holds a PhD from the University of Melbourne. His research has been published in top-tier AI venues including AAAI, IJCAI, and KDD, as well as leading journals such as IEEE TNNLS and ACM TOIS. His team received the Best Paper Award — Runner-Up at the 2024 IEEE Conference on Artificial Intelligence (CAI).

Dr Wang is committed to delivering engaging, student-centred education. He actively supervises Higher Degree by Research (HDR) students and welcomes enquiries from motivated candidates interested in machine learning, mobile and smart computing, and IoT/IoV.
