Bachelor of Biomedical Science (Accelerated)
In this accelerated program, you will complete a full bachelor program in just two years and develop knowledge and skills to sit the Graduate Medical School Admissions Test (GAMSAT). If your goal is to progress to postgraduate studies in medicine, please note that an entry requirement for medical schools that participate in the Graduate Entry Medical School Admissions System (GEMSAS) is completion of the qualifying degree (results and evidence of completion) by no later than 31 December in the year of application. If you wish to apply at the end of your second year, you may be required to complete up to 48 units during the third trimester of your first year of study, as grades for trimester three courses are released in February of the following year.

In order to graduate you must:

Successfully complete 288 units as outlined in the Program Structure

Complete no more than 10 introductory level (100 coded) courses

Complete 17 required courses (204 units) across Introductory, Developing and Graduate levels.

Complete a minimum of one course (12 units) from the required courses from a specified list of Professional Skills courses.

Complete up to six courses (72 units) from the required courses from a specified list of Specialist electives, to a total of 288 units.

Students must progress in a full-time mode in accordance with the requirements set out by the Bachelor of Biomedical Science (Accelerated) program and complete the program in 2-years.

Students will be transferred to the standard Bachelor of Biomedical Science program if they (1) decide to move to part-time enrolment; (2) are unable to maintain the high course workload associated with the accelerated program; or (3) are unable to maintain a GPA of 5.5 or better each trimester.

Students will normally enrol in five (5) courses in Trimester 1 and 2 (60 units), as well as completing additional courses over Trimester 3, to enable completion of the Bachelor of Biomedical Science (Accelerated) program in 2-years.

Where there are exceptional unforeseen circumstances such as in the case of illness, students must apply for special dispensation to the Program Coordinator.
Program notes
- The unit value of all courses is 12 units unless otherwise specified.
- It is each students responsibility to enrol correctly according to your course requisites, program rules and requirements and be aware of the academic calendar dates.
- Courses within this program are assessed using a variety of assessment methods which may include participation portfolios, practical competencies, reports, oral presentations, in-class tests and examinations.
- There are 2 sections within this structure of required courses from specified list; one of these specified lists is Professional skills courses and the other is Specialised electives.
- Students are permitted to select more than 12 units of clinical placement, research project or other professional skills courses, but a minimum of 12 units must be completed.
- Program structure will be rolled out from 2027; that is 1st year in 2027 and 2nd year in 2028.

WIL notes
Students undertaking placements are required to fulfil a number of Mandatory checks/requirements prior to attending placement. These will be listed in Sonia Online.
This program may include placements in clinical settings that require evidence of vaccination, with limited placement in settings that do not require full vaccination. This is a Queensland Government requirement.
It is a Queensland Government requirement that students undertaking a placement within a clinical setting are fit tested annually for an approved respirator. Clinical settings include hospitals, residential aged care facilities, residential disability care facilities, prison health services, youth detention health services, community health care settings, and vaccination clinics). If the Fit Testing requirement applies to placement activity within your Program it will appear in your mandatory checks on Sonia Online. In accordance with Australian Standards, you must be clean shaven for your fit test. Facial hair that lies along the sealing surface of a tight-fitting respirator prevents an effective seal. Therefore, it is a requirement that there is no hair growth between the skin and the facepiece sealing surface in order to achieve a fit. At this stage, there is no exemption in Queensland to this requirement for religious or other reasons and UniSC is unable to waive this requirement.

Special selection criteria
The Bachelor of Biomedical Science (Accelerated) program is restricted to high achieving secondary school students who have completed Year 12 no more than two (2) years before admission. Applicants must not have previously attempted any post-secondary study at diploma level or higher since completing year 12.

Headstart Program - Years 10 to 12
The Headstart program lets you study uni subjects while you’re still in high school. If you successfully complete two Headstart courses, you’ll get a selection rank that you could use to get into uni.
Prior study or work experience
If you:
- have completed Year 12 (no matter how long ago)
- have a TAFE/VET qualification
- have relevant work experience, or
- have studied at university before (even if you didn’t complete your studies)

Tertiary Preparation Pathway
If you don’t have qualifications or experience that will give you a selection rank, you can complete the Tertiary Preparation Pathway as a stepping stone into most degrees. You can also use TPP to complete subject prerequisites.
If you haven’t studied in a while, TPP is also a great way to brush up on essential study skills like critical reading, assignment writing and referencing.
It can also build your knowledge and confidence in the subject areas you’ll need for your degree, like science or maths. TPP courses are fee-free for eligible domestic students.
Indigenous Direct Entry and Access Scheme (IDEAS)
You may be eligible for direct entry into a UniSC degree based on your potential to succeed, under UniSC’s Indigenous Direct Entry and Access Scheme (IDEAS). All you have to do is complete an online application through our website.
High-school leavers completing year 12 are not eligible, and must apply through QTAC.

Additional student costs
Students in this program will be expected to purchase personal protection equipment (laboratory coat, safety glasses, closed footwear) for use during practical work at UniSC.
Commonwealth supported places
Commonwealth supported places are substantially subsidised by the Australian Government so that students only pay 'student contribution" amounts. The student contribution amount will vary depending on the course you are studying and how much funding the Government provides.
If you accept a Commonwealth supported place you are a Commonwealth supported student. As a Commonwealth supported student you must make a contribution towards the cost of your education (unless you are enrolled in Enabling or Tertiary Preparation Pathway courses) with the majority of the cost met by the Commonwealth Government.
Commonwealth supported places are only available to domestic students. As a domestic student you are entitled to a Commonwealth supported place in an eligible program if you:
- meet the citizenship and residency requirements
- complete an electronic Commonwealth Assistance Form (eCAF)
- meet the University's entry requirements for your chosen program.
Domestic applicants apply for admission through the Queensland Tertiary Admissions Centre (QTAC). Some applicants may be eligible to apply direct to UniSC if they meet certain criteria.
